Limestone Sign from Indiana Limestone Fabricators
Ellettsville, IN – August 21, 2024 – Seven Oaks Classical School is pleased to announce the unveiling of a monumental limestone sign, a generous donation from board member Donovan Garletts and his wife, Kristina Garletts, owners of Indiana Limestone Fabricators in Spencer, Indiana. The new sign, prominently positioned at the school’s entrance along State Highway 46, not only draws the eye, but symbolizes the timelessness of the school’s education and the permanence of the school’s commitment to this community.
The new limestone sign is a work of art in its own right. Designed with both aesthetics and permanence in mind, the sign features a large limestone base surrounded by a planter. Rising above the planter is a limestone slab engraved with the school’s name, crest, and motto (scientia est libertas, “knowledge is liberty”). The design even incorporates the “golden ratio,” a proportion widely observed in nature and celebrated in art and architecture for the sense of sense of harmony and beauty that it conveys.
“Seven Oaks is profoundly grateful to the Garletts and their team at Indiana Limestone Fabricators for their generosity,” said Dr. Stephen Shipp, Headmaster of Seven Oaks Classical School. “This sign not only marks our presence in the community, but also reflects the education itself. The bedrock of our education is the cultivation of wisdom and virtue. We use a curriculum and methods that are time-tested and cutting-edge. Like the sign itself, the education we offer is rooted in tradition, yet represents the finest in modern methods.”
Before the sign was constructed, the setback of the school from Highway 46 made it easy for passersby not to notice that it was there. The new sign resolves this challenge by providing a commanding presence that elegantly draws attention to the school while reflecting its identity.
Indiana Limestone Fabricators, known for its superior quality and historic significance in architecture across the United States, was the perfect partner for this project. The material’s timeless beauty and strength resonate with the classical model that Seven Oaks embodies.
Mr. and Mrs. Garletts’s children attend Seven Oaks. Mr. Garletts shared his thoughts on the project: “This sign is not just about marking a location. It’s about making a statement. This school is here to stay. Seven Oaks offers parents a meaningful choice in public education. Look, the growth proves it. The education this school offers has struck a chord. Parents are noticing.”
Indiana Limestone Fabricators also provided a smaller limestone sign outside the reception that suspends the school crest between two pillars.
